Paint and some Mickey Thompsons

Big update here.

First we have started painting the Vette. Or at this point we have finally put on some color. We are going for a brilliant pearl black. Here is some progress below.

And we also made the decision to go ahead and get some 315/60/15 Mickey Thompsons to plant the rear down on the drag track. Pictured below.

Some mods we will need include raising up the rear end and installing a wheelie bar. Stay tuned for more updates and some videos on how to improve your car.

Vette will race and more

Long time no post. Lots to catch up on.

1) Corvette getting painted (again). We went with a Black Pearl and metallic clear coat. Pics to follow.

2) Installed Victor Jr. heads and finished cleaning up the old wiring and sealed all leaks.

3) New calipers painted and installed along with drilled and slotted rotors.

4) New seats ordered. Not installed yet, as we are waiting on carpet.

Some technical specs for everyone.

Victor Jr. Heads: 215 and rated for 580 horsepower. WOOHOO.

Callipers are race pro and can be found on Summit.

Seats are ordered from Pep Boys and cost about $150/per seat.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the pics.

Corvette color change and driving around town

Ok. So the corvette engine appears to be in a good place right now. Running right and driving around town. After being sedentary for so long we noticed the left rear hub will need replacing. A $70 part and some simple labor.

So, now that it is running, what to do? Plasti Dip it until the other paint comes in? That sounds like fun. Below are the pics of the color change. What do you think?

1947 Dodge Rod Project

Here is the latest addition to the Mutant Motorworx garage. A 1947 Dodge with suicide doors. The project will entail a complete removal of the interior and stripping the paint. A new interior and engine will be added. We have a 440 Magnum engine waiting to be dropped into the car. New wheels and suspension will be added and this will prove to be a very fast car. Stay tuned to see how the project comes.

New Project Truck

Mutant Motorworx just took in a new project. The owner of this truck (1986 Chevrolet Custom) has a tired Chevy 305 Small Block. He desires more power and torque and with the budget we have been afforded this is our plan.

Replace the intake for a dual plane Edelbrock intake.
Replace the Carburetor with an Edelbrock 650 CFM.
Adding an Edelbrock Thumpa cam for that old school sound and low end power.
Tune up with new plugs and wires and replace the valve cover gaskets.

We are hoping for about 30-40 horsepower out of these simple mods, but an easily noticeable gain in power.

Corvette hiatus. Different Engine Swap

While the Corvette has been near completion Mutant Motorworx has had to take a hiatus on Bobbas Vette due to our clientele.

Our latest client has a 2006 Hyundai Tuscon. They were quoted over $5000 to fix the car. We were able to purchase an engine with half the miles on it and replace it for $2500. Check out the photos below.

This swap was pretty simple. Using the old electronics and old transmission we were able to give the client a reasonable solution.

Now, as for Bobas Vette, we simply need to cut a hole in the hood and paint the car.

We will be putting up plans for our paint booth that we are building and for an engine test stand we are building as well. Stay in touch.

Vette Breathes. New Air Intake System

After considering what I was going to do for an air intake on the Vette I decided on going a little crazy. Since we have to cut a hole in the hood anyways for the eventual supercharger I figured we would just put a nice scoop with direct access to the carburetor in now. All this takes are some extensions on the studs that go to the carburetor Below are the pictures of the progress.

Other steps we took was doing the timing for the vette, which consisted of finding top dead center. A process I will explain in a future post, and installing the distributor. An HEI MSD distributor.

As you can see from the pictures we are getting real close. There is a new, longer radiator hose (due to the difference in intakes and the water neck placement). We also started to install the new fuel pressure regulator. Since the C4 had two lines going in (fuel and return) we needed the correct regulator to compensate. You want your fuel pressure between 4.5 and 9.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Mutant Motorworx also sent out $1000 in parts today to anxious car guys and gals. Thanks to our shipping department for all the hard work.

How to build your own electrolysis tank

So we were asked to post the instructions on how to build your own electrolysis tank. Silly me. I should have done that in the first place. Here are the instructions on how to do it for yourself.

Materials
Large container (water tight)
Copper wire bendable
Rebar
Wash soda
Eyelet screws
string or zip ties
trickle charger (6 amp)

First you will need to position the rebar as seen in the photo above. You can even add two more pieces about midway.

Drill holes in the side of the container to run the eyelet screws, putting the eyelet around the rebar snug. Run the screw through the hole and secure it with a nut on the outside. Run the copper wire all the way around the rebar making a circuit.

Fill the tank with water and wash soda (about 3 cups of wash soda).

Put the part into the tank that you want to remove the rust from. The wash soda and electrolysis process will remove the rust and grime. The rebar will attract the rust to it and off the parts.

Connect the positive terminal to the rebar and the negative to the part you are cleaning.Plug it in and monitor. Be careful with aluminum parts. They don't need to be in long and too much time will cause damage. Steel is ok and may take hours to complete the process. Good luck.

DIY Electrolysis tank for parts cleaning

Yesterday was another big day for Mutant Motorworx. True to our name we built this electrolysis tank that would look more at home in a B horror movie. But it worx. And it worx well. After only 90 minutes the rust and grime came off of our Ford 302 Heads that had been pretty badly weathered. I will be dunking them again today for a longer time to get them as clean as possible. If you want to know how to build one hit us up at

and we can send you instructions.

3 Projects and running strong

You all have seen the corvette build we are doing. But have you seen the 1974 Mercedes and the Del Sol Mutant we are building? We have constant updates and pics on our website, but here is a brief synopsis. Bobas Vette is getting a supercharger, the Merc is going to be a cruiser/show car, and the Del Sol is a 400 HP monster sleeper. As we progress feel free to ask us questions to help with your project.

Until then follow the updates on all three projects on our website.

Fuel lines and A/C delete pulley

UPDATE: This weekend we are hoping to connect the fuel lines from the pump to carburetor. As you know we deleted the air conditioning from this car to save weight, space, and hassle. It has a removable roof so we figured this was the best option. Now there is a hole where the A/C compressor once was. To replace that we are adding an A/C delete pulley.

If you are looking to do something similar this is what it looks like.

Check out http://www.mutantmotorworx.com for updates on this project and a couple of other projects we are doing. We can also help with your project. Always available.

Distributor and Carburetor for Corvette

Continuing our carb conversion today. We added the HEI MSD distributor and bolted down the carburetor. An expected issue happened today. The hood will no longer close all the way because the carburetor and intake raise up too much. No problem. We will cut a hole in it.

Upcoming is the addition of a new fuel regulator (with a return built in), A/C delete pulley, water neck, radiator hose, removing the A/C coolant radiator, and connecting it all together.

We also mounted a 5.0 (302) motor to the engine stand today and started prepping it for assembly. Including painting it Mutant Motorworx green.

Corvette almost done and Mutant Motorworx takes some big steps.

Another big day for Mutant Motorworx. Zino came by the shop to help out and his friend Hannah Clayton and her new puppy Asher.
As you can see in the photos we had an awesome addition with the new custom shelves courtesy of Robert Parr. Also scored an air compressor and power washer.
Swarner broke down another Honda engine and all the parts made it on the shelves.
As for the Corvette the intake was bolted down finally and carburetor fitted with gasket. A list was made of everything needed to continue and finish the project. Probably about a week out from finishing.
